According to preliminary figures released by Macau’s Public Security Police Force, there were more than 630,000 visitor arrivals over the first three days of the Labour Day Golden Week holiday period, averaging over 210,000 per day – with Saturday 2 May setting a new record for single-day visitor arrivals to Macau.
Mainland China’s Labour Day holiday started on Friday. On the first day of the five-day holiday period, large numbers of visitors were already entering Macau. Preliminary data released by the authorities showed that total border crossings across all checkpoints reached 809,000 for the day. Of these, visitor crossings (entries and exits combined) totaled 382,500, with approximately 203,000 inbound visitors compared with about 177,000 inbound visitors on the first day of last year’s May Day holiday. This represents an increase of more than 14%.
On Saturday 2 May passenger flow climbed further – marking the peak day for inbound travel during the first three days. Police data showed that around 889,000 crossings were recorded throughout the day, with visitors accounting for about 474,000 of them. Inbound visitors were estimated at around 247,000, mainly entering via the Border Gate checkpoint, the Hengqin checkpoint and the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge checkpoint.
Police also noted that three records were broken that day, including the single-day total border-crossing volume, the single-day inbound visitor count and the highest single-day passenger flow at the Hengqin checkpoint.
By Sunday 3 May, visitor numbers eased from the peak, but overall border traffic remained high. According to police data, about 783,000 crossings were recorded for the day. Visitor crossings (entries and exits combined) were about 400,000, including roughly 182,000 inbound and 218,000 outbound visitors. Travelers continued to mainly use the Border Gate, Hengqin and the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge checkpoints.
