Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the economy of Macau recorded solid growth in the first quarter of 2026, supported by the Lunar New Year holidays and a series of festive events.
The preliminary figure for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) totaled MOP$108.0 billion (US$13.4 billion) in 1Q26, representing a year-on-year real increase of 7.1%. Overall economic output recovered to 90.3% of the same period of 2019.
According to DSEC, the rise in GDP in the first quarter was mainly attributable to holiday-related tourism and event-driven activity. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached MOP$65.9 billion (US$8.16 billion) in the first quarter, up 14.3% year-on-year. Meanwhile, visitor arrivals increased by 13.7% year-on-year to 11,213,904.
DSEC noted that “visitor arrivals to Macau rose markedly in the first quarter, driving relatively rapid growth in exports of services, and the overall economy showed a stable and improving development trend.”
Driven by inbound tourism, total exports of services grew by 13.9% in the first quarter. In terms of domestic demand, private consumption expenditure rose by 2.8% while government final consumption expenditure and gross fixed capital formation recorded declines of 4.8% and 21.9% respectively.
