The recently opened expansion of Wynn’s exclusive Chairman’s Club at Wynn Palace appears to be doing the trick, with Citigroup pointing to a significant increase in high roller “whales” seen at the venue during its latest Macau premium mass table survey.
In a Monday note, Citi analysts George Choi and Timothy Chau described the Chairman’s Club as the surprise standout performer of their April survey, where nine whales – including the three largest seen on this trip – were observed wagering a total of HK$1.72 million.
This, the analysts said, was the first time they had ever witnessed the top three whales in any one visit all playing with a single concessionaire.
“We believe the novelty effect of the recently opened expanded area of the Chairman’s Club in Wynn Palace played a role in the observed volume improvement,” the analysts wrote, stating, “It looks like ‘Build It and They Will Come’ still holds in Macau.”
The performance of Wynn’s Chairman’s Club has Citi keeping a close eye on MGM’s own newly opened premium mass room at MGM COTAI, which Choi and Chau said has coincided with the return of Labubu.
According to Citi, MGM is again making the newest plush dolls – released on 2 April – available for players for point redemptions, having first initiated a Labubu promotion last September.
The new Masters Club at MGM COTAI features 17 baccarat tables with minimum bets of between HK$3,000 and HK$10,000 in the open area plus a number of private salons. It is, the analysts, “beautifully decorated.”
City’s April table survey observed a 17% year-on-year increase in total premium mass wager for the month to HK$13.0 million on a 5% increase in players to 644.
Although Galaxy continued to rank top with a 27% share in total wager observed, Citi said Wynn was the most improved operator with 23% share – up from just 10% in March.
