Total visitor arrivals to Macau reached 3,647,328 in January, remaining virtually unchanged from the 3,646,561 arrivals reported in the same month in 2025.
According to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), same-day visitors in January totaled 2,254,699, up 4.6% year-on-year, while overnight visitors numbered 1,392,629, down 6.6%. The average length of stay remained at 1.0 days.
By source markets, visitors from the Chinese mainland totaled 2,705,231 in January, down 1.6% year-on-year. Among these, those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme reached 1,452,011, a decrease of 9.6%. The statistical authority noted that the decline was mainly due to a higher comparison base, as last year’s Lunar New Year holidays in the mainland fell in late January.
Visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region amounted to 570,490, a slight year-on-year decrease of 1.3%, while visitors from the Taiwan region rose 20.7% to 93,154.
International visitation performed strongly, totaling 278,453 in January, up 15.5% year-on-year. Several Southeast Asian markets recorded double-digit growth: arrivals from Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore increased by 52.3%, 80.5%, and 28.6% respectively, although those from the Philippines and Indonesia fell by 6.3% and 21.8%.
In South Asia, visitors from India surged by 54.1% year-on-year. In Northeast Asia, visitors from the Republic of Korea rose by 14.5%, whereas visitors from Japan edged down by 1.6%. For long-haul markets, visitors from the USA increased by 4.7% year-on-year.
