The Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, anticipates the city will welcome a daily peak of approximately 175,000 visitors during this year’s Lunar New Year holiday.

This year’s CNY, also known as Spring Festival, is being described as the longest Spring Festival holiday on record, running from 15 February to 23 February for a total of nine days.

The holiday period also represents Macau’s most crucial “Golden Week” of the year. In a media interview on Tuesday, Senna Fernandes expressed optimism about visitor numbers during this year’s holiday.

“With the extended holiday period this year, we anticipate daily visitor numbers ranging from 158,000 to 175,000,” she said, noting that approximately 1.4 million visitors are expected to visit Macau throughout the entire holiday period.

The Macau government has also launched a series of activities during the holiday period. In addition to the highlight “Floats Parade” event, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will host performances, workshops and exhibitions across multiple districts for public participation.

During the 2025 Lunar New Year Golden Week from 28 January to 2 February, approximately 1 million visitor arrivals to Macau were recorded, representing a slight 6.1% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. However, overall enthusiasm remained strong. Mainland Chinese visitors constituted the overwhelming majority, reaching 760,400 arrivals.

In FY 2025, Macau’s tourism sector soared with total visitor arrivals throughout the year hitting an all-time high of 40.06 million.
