Macau International Airport (MIA) has announced that passenger traffic exceeded 7.52 million in 2025, while flight movements surpassing 58,000. In information released Monday, the airport’s operator also said the number of international routes in operation rose by 26% year-on-year, while international passenger traffic increased by 7% – reflecting continued expansion of its route network.
MIA also reported strong operational performance during the Macao SAR Establishment Day and Christmas period from 20 to 25 December 2025, handling a total of more than 140,000 passengers. On average, the airport managed 179 flight movements and over 24,000 passengers per day, up 5.6% and 1.7% respectively from the same period last year. Passenger traffic peaked on 23 December, when the airport handled more than 26,000 passengers – the highest single-day figure during the holiday period.
At present, 29 airlines operate at MIA, connecting Macau to 47 destinations across the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, providing travelers with a wide range of travel options.
However, the airport noted that due to the regional economic environment and other uncertainties, passenger traffic fell short of expectations in the first half of 2025 and during the summer holiday period, resulting in a 1.6% decline in annual passenger traffic compared with the previous year. In contrast, air cargo throughput recorded a 1.08% year-on-year increase.
To respond to market changes, MIA said it has stepped up collaboration with relevant stakeholders to attract new airlines, open new destinations and increase flight frequencies, contributing to a gradual rebound in passenger traffic in the fourth quarter. Newly launched and resumed routes included services to Jinan, Cebu, Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh City and Vladivostok, further improving travel convenience to and from Macau.
MIA added that it is in discussions with multiple domestic and international carriers on additional routes, including preliminary talks with Middle Eastern airlines on potential services to the Middle East. Currently, passengers departing from Macau can reach destinations in the Middle East, Europe and the United States with transfer times of around two to three hours via hubs in Chengdu, Chongqing or Taiwan, as the airport continues to build a more comprehensive long-haul network.
In terms of passenger services, MIA plans to roll out a “Check’ N Fly” hotel check-in and baggage drop-off service before the Lunar New Year in 2026, allowing passengers to drop off luggage at their hotel and proceed directly to boarding upon arrival at the airport, providing what MIA describes as a more convenient and seamless travel experience.
