The Election Committee of the Macau Legislative Assembly has stated that the city’s gaming concessionaires are required to maintain neutrality and impartiality during the upcoming election period.
It announced earlier that the election for the 8th Legislative Assembly of Macau will be held on 14 September this year. According to the law, any organization intending to run in the election is required to obtain at least 300 nomination forms and submit its list of candidates and political platform by 26 June.
The process is currently at the stage of signing nomination forms. However, it has been speculated in some forums that the companies they work for “require” their staff to submit nomination forms. The Legislative Assembly Election Committee held a press conference on Tuesday where it stated, “No one should be allowed to influence their voting intention by means of coercion, fraud or professional duress when collecting nomination forms or when campaigning for the election.”
The committee also emphasized the need for gaming concessionaires to remain neutral during the election.
“The committee has met with representatives of the DICJ and is in the process of meeting with representatives of the gaming concessionaires in early April,” it said.
The committee added that the employees of concessionaires are also required to maintain neutrality while performing their duties at the casino.
