Galaxy Entertainment Group will set up a memorial area at Galaxy International Convention Center from this Wednesday for team members and various sectors of the community to pay tribute to its founder, Dr Lui Che Woo, the company has announced. Dr Lui passed away on 7 November at the age of 95.

The memorial area, located at Hall B, Ground Floor of Galaxy International Convention Center, will be open from 27 November to 3 December, from 3pm to 6pm on the first day and from 11am to 6pm each day thereafter. Members of the public will be able to leave their messages of condolences in the memorial guest book.

The memorial will precede a funeral service for Dr Lui at the Hong Kong Funeral Parlour at 3pm on 4 December, to be followed by a public memorial service in Hong Kong on 5 December, according to information published by the Lui family on Monday.

Dr Lui’s body will then be transferred to the Hong Kong Buddhist Cemetery for burial.

In announcing the memorial area at Galaxy International Convention Center, GEG said that Dr Lui – who founded K. Wah Group in 1955 and GEG in Macau in 2002– “firmly believed in giving back to society, emphasizing education, healthcare, and public welfare.

“He donated to build over a hundred schools and established scholarships, while in recent years focusing on supporting high-end research, practicing the philosophy of ‘Strengthening the Country through Education, Benefiting the People through Education’,” the company added.

“In 2015, he founded the LUI Che Woo Prize – Prize for World Civilisation. In 2016, Dr Lui topped the Hurun China Philanthropy List for Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas Chinese, recognized as a leading philanthropist. He was also actively involved in and supporting the education, medical care and technology innovation sectors, among others, through donations and charitable projects across Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.

“Dr Lui Che Woo lived his life with integrity and a pioneering spirit, deeply embedding these values into GEG’s corporate culture and serving as a role model for future generations. His profound patriotism and selfless dedication earned him the respect of all sectors of society, and his admirable qualities were cherished by employees, friends, and partners.

Dr Lui’s spirit and legacy will forever remain in our hearts. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

IAG recently published an in-depth obituary about the life of Dr Lui Che Woo.
