Macau’s visitor arrivals totaled 2,209,662 in June, representing a 480% year-on-year increase although very slightly down compared to May. The June tally pushed total visitor arrivals for the first half of 2023 to 11,645,877, up 240% year-on-year, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Visitor arrivals from mainland China increased by 330% year-on-year to 1,444,933 in June, while visitor arrivals from Hong Kong totaled 601,663 and those from Taiwan 42,964, representing year-on-year increases of 1,450% and 730% respectively.
Visitor arrivals from overseas also increased to 120,102 compared to just 140 foreign arrivals a year ago when Macau’s borders were essentially closed off to the world. The Philippines accounted for the largest number of foreign visitors with 25,235, followed by Indonesia with 14,869 and Korea with 14,458.
According to immigration channels, a total of 1,695,178 visitors entered Macau by land in June, representing a year-on-year increase of 370%. Among these arrivals, 823,029 came through the Border Gate, 562,073 via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HKZMB), and 222,788 through the Hengqin Port, accounting for 48.6%, 33.2% and 13.1% of total visitor arrivals, respectively.
For the first six months of the year combined, there were 6,067,823 overnight visitors and 5,578,054 same-day visitors, with an average length of stay of 1.3 days, an increase of 0.1 days year-on-year.
