G2E Asia has announced Sands China President Dr Wilfred Wong and the Chairman and CEO of Philippines gaming regulator PAGCOR as the Keynote Speakers for the upcoming G2E Asia Conference at The Venetian Macao.
Dr Wong will deliver his keynote on the opening morning of G2E Asia, Tuesday 11 July, at 10am while Tengco will wrap up the conference proper at 10am on Thursday 13 July.
In a recent interview with Inside Asian Gaming, Dr Wong provided in-depth insights into the development of Macau and how Sands China is increasing its investment in what he described as evidence of the company’s commitment to Macau.
“There will be a lot of capex involved in our investment while we continue with our investment in opex,” he explained in response to a question about the company’s US$3.85 billion commitment over the next decade.
“We have been doing a lot of the opex in the past – we have a concert every weekend for 52 weeks a year. We have a lot of MICE facilities. We have over 700 retail outlets that we are promoting every day. So, we have a big package already in place and the future is very similar, but everything on a bigger scale.”
Tengco heads to Macau at a time when the Philippines gaming industry is booming, with analysts recently predicting annual GGR growth of 15% per annum in the medium term.
He is also busy cleaning up the country’s offshore gaming industry with PAGCOR among a number of agencies actively cracking down on illegal operators it says are tarnishing the POGO industry.
Following a weekend raid of one business in Metro Manila, Tencgo said, “We condemn all criminal activities that violate Philippine laws and human rights – regardless of nationality.
“As we have always said before, PAGCOR will not hesitate to impose sanctions on erring licensees and accredited service providers. Similarly, we will continue to cooperate with our partner law enforcement agencies to ensure that responsible and regulated gaming is observed.”
G2E Asia runs from 11 to 13 July at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo.
