MGM China has unveiled its first major initiative in supporting the Macau SAR Government’s sports tourism push, partnering with sports management firm IMG to host the inaugural MGM Macau Tennis Masters in December.
The high-level event, to be held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome with the support of the Sports Bureau, will be an invitational exhibition event featuring four male and two female players competing in a best-of-three sets format.
World number 14 Belinda Bencic is the first female star confirmed, while men’s number 9 Taylor Fritz and number 10 Frances Tiafoe will also make the trip to Macau. The remaining three names will be announced soon.
The MGM Macau Tennis Masters will take place across two days on 2 and 3 December, with tickets going on sale next month.
The Macau government has combined sports with tourism and launched a “sports + tourism” development plan. Under the new 10-year concessions signed by the concessionaires and in place since 1 January 2023, the government has emphasized non-gaming elements, including sports development, as a priority.
