The number of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) issued by Macau’s gaming operators fell by 11.5% to 1,177 in 2022, down from 1,330 a year earlier according to data from the Financial Intelligence Office.
The decline in gaming industry STRs resulted in Macau-wide STRs falling by 9.7% year-on-year to 2,199, with Financial Institutions and Insurance Companies also reporting a 3.5% drop to 765 and other institutions a 17.6% decline to 257 STRs.
Based on information previously released by the Office, the number of STRs from casino operators in 4Q22 was 311, higher than the 248 reported in Q3 and the 180 in Q2 but well short of the 413 STRs from the sector in the March 2022 quarter.
The Financial Intelligence Office said it disseminated 162 of the total 2,199 STRs reported in 2022 to the Public Prosecutions Office.
