Chief Telecom has been leading Taiwan’s charge to become a global leader in data and telecom services, including for the gaming industry.

Certified as Level 2 National Critical Infrastructure, Chief Telecom’s Taipei Internet eXchange (TPIX) is the largest internet exchange centre in Taiwan in terms of its members and traffic volume, connecting the major internet exchange centres and service providers at home and abroad.
CONNECTING TO SOUTHEAST ASIA
The impact of the US-China trade war led to supply chain migration from China to other ASEAN countries. In order to provide customers with faster and more flexible cross-country services, Chief Telecom accelerated its international deployment in 2021 and has launched a plan of alliance with ASEAN-6 countries. It has formed a partnership with alliance members to provide various services so as to achieve its goal of becoming the centre of East Asia digital convergence and AI cloud business applications.
Johnny Liu, President of Chief Telecom, told IAG that the company provides multiple network resources to connect Asia and China directly for gaming industries. The localized network with high quality and low latency in ASEAN countries can create an unconventional gaming experience for players.
EXPANDING INFRASTRUCTURE
Chief Telecom has three IDC buildings in Taiwan and has successfully attracted domestic and foreign IDC colocation customers based on its carrier-neutral position. A fourth IDC building, due for launch in 1Q24, will be connected to the existing three IDC buildings by optical fiber loops to ensure that customers can quickly obtain resources from the existing three IDC buildings.
This new IDC, described as both “functional and aesthetic”, with a floor area of 16,500 square meters, is built with Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) design. It will be able to withstand earthquakes of 7 on the Richter scale and take up to 2,000 kilograms per square meter in order to meet the requirements of high-performance computing (HPC). Following the trend of high-density racks, the minimum power per rack will be 6kW, with customization available.
MULTIPLE NETWORK OPTIONS
The international submarine cable backbone between Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan has been expanded to 1Tbps, and service coverage has extended to more than 11 countries in East Asia to provide the best network and cloud service solutions for enterprise customers.
In order to provide customers with faster and more flexible international services, Chief Telecom is currently designing a whole new Chief Connectivity Intelligence eXchange (CIX) service platform, which allows the company and its ASEAN alliance partners to deliver local services to each other’s enterprise customers. For example, if a Taiwanese customer requires a submarine cable to the Philippines for local internet access, or Taiwanese enterprises in Vietnam are requesting VPN connections back to Taiwan, they can all utilize the CIX service platform to obtain the services they need in the shortest possible time.
CLOUD CONNECTION
Chief Cloud eXchange (CCX) is an integrated multi/hybrid cloud connection platform. Through CCX, customers can easily connect to various global cloud service providers through private connections (dedicated line or VPN). CCX can provide customers with high reliability, high delivery rate and up to 10Gbps of speed via private connection.
“For gaming service providers who want to have a stable connection to the public cloud, CCX is definitely a high-speed gateway for them to deliver their games to subscribers from AWS, Azure and Google Cloud,” said Liu.
