Celebrity memorabilia auction at Ponte 16 raises US$2 million

An auction of celebrity memorabilia at Ponte 16 Resort in Macau has raised US$2 million. The 11-hour ‘Legends’ auction at the SJM-licensed casino resort saw 517 items come under the hammer.

Items auctioned in the first of two sessions included personal belongings of Bruce Lee, Marilyn Monroe and The Beatles, as well as an assortment of pop culture artefacts from Hollywood films. Other items related to Michael Jackson, The Jackson 5, Madonna and Elvis Presley were sold in the second session. Bids were received in person, online and via telephone from around the world.

Marilyn Monroe’s dress from the 1954 film River of No Return went to a private buyer for US$504,000. A bustier worn by Madonna during her Who’s That Girl Tour went for US$72,000—nine times its reserve price.
