An electricity sub-station in the downtown area of the Macau peninsula was put out of action at the same time as this morning’s blast in a local restaurant.
But the shutdown did not interrupt power to neighbouring casinos, according to sources at CEM, Macau’s electricity supply company. The break in power supply was confined to the Centro Internacional De Macau, a commercial building below a high rise housing estate opposite The Casino Golden Dragon.
The Golden Dragon was the only casino directly affected by the blast, and then only in the form of damage to the ground floor windows. Gaming operations continued as normal.
It’s understood that gas cylinders from the restaurant were being stored near to the sub-station prior to the incident. But it’s not clear what caused the cylinders to explode.
